A shaded place to eat, cook and gather. We build pergolas, covered entertaining areas, outdoor kitchens, pavilions and pool cabanas that connect the house to the garden.
The best outdoor rooms start with how you use the space: where the afternoon sun falls, which direction rain comes from, and how you move between the kitchen, yard and pool. Roof lines, screening and materials need to work with the existing home. We discuss the structure, services and any approval requirements before settling the scope.

Hardwood decks, balconies and timber screening built to suit the house and its exposure. A well-planned deck can turn an underused edge of the home into everyday living space.
Salt air, strong sun and heavy rain make the hidden details just as important as the finished boards. We consider footings, framing, drainage, ventilation and fixings alongside the timber selection. Steps, balustrades and screening are planned together so the finished work feels like one considered addition.

Rework the spaces around an existing pool with poolside decks, covered seating and better connections to the home. Our Clunes pool pavilion and outdoor-area renovation shows this work in practice.
We look at the outdoor area as a whole: access from the house, usable shade, drainage and how the entertaining space meets the pool enclosure. The scope may be a new deck or a broader outdoor-room renovation, with the relevant trades coordinated around the existing pool. Our focus here is the surrounding spaces, not swimming-pool construction.

Kitchens, bathrooms, reworked layouts and additional rooms for homes that need to work differently. We bring the same attention to framing, waterproofing, joinery and finishes as we do to a new build.
Older homes can need more than new finishes. We discuss the existing structure and services, how an addition ties into the roof and cladding, and the practicalities of working around an occupied house. The aim is a clear scope and an extension or renovation that feels part of the home, rather than an afterthought.

An additional room, a detached studio or a carefully planned addition can provide space without replacing the whole house. We work with your designer to suit the structure to your site and intended use.
Access, privacy, daylight and connections to the existing home all shape a smaller building. We discuss services, the proposed use and the applicable design and approval requirements early. A studio is not automatically approved accommodation; the right pathway depends on the site and what you want to build.
Tom McFadden brings 12 years of building experience, strong local connections and a meticulous eye for detail. You deal with Tom directly, whether the project is a pergola, a home renovation or an additional living space.
Start with the space you want to change and how you want to use it. Tom can discuss the existing site, your ideas and the scope of work before preparing a quote.
Discuss your project →Renovation, extension and deck work takes us right across the Northern Rivers — Byron Bay, Suffolk Park, Ewingsdale and Broken Head on the coast, Lennox Head, Ballina, Alstonville and Evans Head to the south, Brunswick Heads, Ocean Shores and Mullumbimby to the north, and the hinterland villages of Bangalow, Newrybar, Possum Creek, Clunes and Federal out towards Lismore.
A lot of our renovation and extension work sits in the Ballina Shire, so we have a dedicated page on building, renovating and extending in Ballina.
If you're building new rather than reworking an existing home, our custom home builds page covers how those projects run.
